Well, I must say this must be one of the more frustrating things I've dealt with lately:
My Firefly disk set came with an extra disk 1 instead of disk 2. GRRR!!! ARRGGG!!!
A quick wrap up of the trip:
- My windshield wiper blades aren't working properly
- I can get 29.6 mpg on a car that's rated for 27 freeway
- Chicago drivers are psycho
- Some motorists are very friendly, and interaction can be made with the assistance of neither C/B nor being pulled up along side (there was one in particular with a radar detector)
- Cops can be very reasonable as to when to not pull someone over
- Pat needs to learn that there is not a symbionic (sp?) relationship between him and the mold growing in his bathroom and kitchen
- Ancients warfare can have some very intense battles
- London burns easily (search for "London is Burning" game by Avalon Hill)
- Three episodes of Firefly can make a person buy the entire series
- Parents don't always tell each other everything going on in your life ("You're WHERE?!")
And above all, I've returned with great motivation to paint.
Today was a disaster at work. I couldn't focus, couldn't get much done, kept getting annoyed by evidence of "not everything should be done on the computer, yet some people think otherwise", and such. So I left work early, went to tae kwon do, took some time to focus before the class started, then had a great sparing class. I felt good about the practice and even spared the instructor at the end (although the last bit was him and I both throwing back kicks at the same time, but me missing and getting nailed in the butt). I just hope the day doesn't go downhill from here.
It's been a while since I posted anything here. So here's what happened since:
- Went to a bar for work Wednesday night
- Played cards with John and his sisters Friday night
- Went to sparing class Saturday, had a good session and a bad session with the instructor
- Drove around looking for salt for my parking spot after practice
- Went to kemper Saturday night and watched some Firefly, and later that evening placed an order for the dvds
- Sunday, had my exec board meeting for TKD (which went well)
- Sunday evening, went to dinner with exec board minus one member
- Went to work today
- Went to my massage class and received a massage (I hadn't received one in 3 weeks)
- Went to a bar for work again
- Went to another bar
- Went to another bar
- Told my friend / co-worker that he'd had enough and convinced him that we should go home
- Showed him my liquor cabinet
I have employment!!!
I'm to go into work tomorrow at 2 PM. I will have some flexibility on when I work, but my project is to be done by the first day or so of March.
In other news, I'm looking into going down to Nashville to visit pmart in 10 days. It'll be the first road trip that I take the WRX on, so I'll get to see it's full potential in fuel economy (as opposed to driving around Evanston at 30 mph).
Ok so I've been slacking off on my writing. Not much has been happening.
I went to a super bowl party, enjoyed good food HDTV. On my way back I scared Silent Dan (he thought I was going to do a donut on the Ice at my favorite parking lot). After dropping off the silent authority as well as the crock pot, Carl and I returned to enjoy what little was left of the snow. I found Carlos, a guy who owned a 2003 WRX, sold it back for a 2004 WRX, and now is wanting to sell his current one (with some damage and minimal options) to someone for $24k so that he can get a STi. He asked me if I knew anyone interested, and I told him no. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I knew as this guy has driven it so hard he's already having loose steering issues (at 2000 miles).
Tonight I returned to the parking lot, only today we had a bit of new snow. I chatted with Larry the shuttle driver a bit before and after my drive. At one point I put the car in a spin doing donut after donut. The sensation on me as the driver was ... interesting and made me think about the guy who set a record doing those (before his car ran out of gas).
Anyway, back to Larry. Turns out he's a mechanical engineer. I asked him what he was doing driving a shuttle, and turns out his daughter is going to college and he is working a night job to help pay the bills. He seems to like it because it's not very stressful like his day job is. He also has a son who is 16 1/2 and is about to get his permit. He wants to bring his son one night so that he can watch me drive around. The kid will probably enjoy watching me, I know his dad does.
